About Us
Above All Odds empowers community members in Philadelphia to create change in their communities through mentorship and skills and financial literacy training. AAO focuses on building power among LGBTQI returning citizens, young people, and families in this community.
Above All Odds founder, LaTonya Myers is raising funds to help Philly 10 families catch up on their rent and stay in their homes.
As a community advocate and resource person working closely with families impacted by systemic injustice every day Ms. Myers is confronted with the depth of need in her community.
As has been extensively documented in news reports, the Covid-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted communities of color and communities experiencing a high rate of poverty; we have seen higher death rates among African-Americans when compared to white people who contract the disease. Additionally, the income and wealth gaps created by systemic racism mean that many African American community members are less likely to be able to withstand long periods of unemployment due to the pandemic without also experiencing food or housing insecurity.
LaTonya founded Above All Odds as a platform for advocacy and community support in Philadelphia. She sees the clear need for community support in the form of rent assistance and she hopes that this holiday season Philadelphians who have funds to spare will open their hearts to help their neighbors stay in their homes.
